This Month's DVD Selection: Robot Chicken: Vol. 1

Geek god Seth Green brings you the latest in adult animated comedy in the form of furiously funny sketch comedy. Resurrecting your favourite action figures and leaving no lines uncrossed characterizes this collection of 20 episodes normally found on the Comedy Channel's Adult Swim hour. This show really brings new meaning to the term 'nonsequiter'.

To truly appreciate Robot Chicken, one needs a thorough grasp on popular culture over the last 30 years. Everything from William Shatner's hairpeice to He-Man gets some attention, though you don't need to be a walking encyclopedia to appreciate the humour behind such moments as a play-dough Michael Jackson's dance off with his alien-planted substitue.

The show features the voice talents of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mark Hamill, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and, of course, Seth Green himself, as well as an endless compliment of unexpected cameos and familiar voices. The DVD also boasts a slew of archival treats, including animatics and deleted scenes.

From offensive to down right absurd, Robot chicken is, if nothing else, a phenomenon that no one between the age of 19 and 40 should be without. Bawk bawk bawk indeed.
